Challenge / Cook a new meal every day for 30 days.
Following my first ever dinner party last week, I invited over my good friends Billy and Mel for a meal.
Mel is half French and has culinary standards to match, so this had me worried. She’s also pregnant, which complicated my preparation. Fortunately, Billy is easy going and would eat pretty much anything.
Here’s what they thought:
Course 1: Baked Mushrooms stuffed with Ricotta
I think everyone else enjoyed this more than I did! It was ok, but not to my personal taste.
Course 2: Paprika Chicken
As you can see, way too much water! Tasted a bit flat, and I couldn’t taste a hint of paprika in it. The meat was quite nice though.
Course 3: Lemon Cheesecake
Nobody can mess up a cheesecake, right? Apparently not.
This was by far and away the highlight. The base was a little thin, but otherwise I’m pretty happy with this one. I must learn the art of proper presentation though.
What did I learn?
• Always be offering your guests wine. It helps drown out the taste of the food.
• I’m now excited by rubber spatulas and springform cooking tins. What is happening to me?
• Learn to read the subtle cues from your guests that they want to leave:
