What the hell are you doing?
I commit to challenges that last exactly 30 days. Each challenge must be hard yet rewarding, and I share all my experiences here. Enjoy!
Why? It forces me to grow. I hope that doing this betters me as a person, and ideally – inspires a few others. But failing that, it should at least be a laugh.
How did this get started?
It started by accident; I was just looking to break my addiction to Facebook. 30 days later, I tried applying the same trick to getting fit. After that worked, I realised I might be onto something.
I love to challenge myself. I feel most alive when I’m doing something that makes me grow. And I realised this might help others too.
So let’s see where this goes. A lot of that will be down to you!
What kind of challenges?
Challenges will be as varied as I can bear: physical, intellectual, charitable, creative, educational. Check out a list of what I’ve done and am considering and feel free to suggest one.
Are you always doing a challenge?
Nearly always. Between each challenge I will usually take a week to reflect on what happened, plan my next challenge and recover. As of my cooking challenge, I also reserve the right to take a day off for exceptional circumstances like bereavement.
What if you screw up?
I’m sure it will happen. Update: it happened.
So what are the rules?
These rules are set:
- A challenge must be hard, but possible.
- A challenge must be hugely rewarding.
- There must be a terrifying punishment for failure.
These aren’t rules, but strong guidance:
- The challenge should require some action every day.
- Prepare what you need in advance.
- Take a break after each challenge to reflect.
